Privacy policy

Last updated 6 October 2026

This policy explains what information AudienceKit (“we”, “us”) collects when you use AudienceKit and the community apps built on it, and what we do with it. It covers our websites, the AudienceKit admin console, and every audience app we run on the platform, including Hot Mess (hotmess.social) on iPhone, Android, the web and Alexa. In this policy, “the apps” means all of these.

If you have a question, or want to see, correct or delete your information, email us at hello@audiencekit.com.

What we collect

When you sign in with Facebook

The apps use Facebook Login. When you sign in, Facebook shares the information you agree to on its permission screen. Depending on what you allow, that can include:

  • your name, first and last name, profile picture, email address, language setting and gender;
  • an app-scoped Facebook ID and a sign-in token, so we can keep you signed in;
  • which Facebook Pages you like, limited to the Pages of venues and people listed in the audience you use, so we can show you what you follow;
  • which of your Facebook friends also use the app, so you can see friends at the same venue or event;
  • the Facebook Pages you manage, if you are a venue or promoter and choose to connect them, so you can update your own listings.

We never post to Facebook for you, and we never see your Facebook password.

When you use the apps

  • Location. If you allow it, the app sends your location while you use it, so we can show nearby venues and events and, when you choose to, check you in at a venue. Some venues use Bluetooth beacons for this. You can turn location off in your device settings at any time; the apps still work, but you’ll have to pick a city yourself.
  • Activity in the app. Events you RSVP to, venues you check in at, messages you send to a venue, and safety pings you send.
  • Device and connection. Your device model and type, an app-specific device identifier, the app version, and the IP address of each session.

Public information about venues, events and people

To keep listings accurate, we collect public information about venues, events, performers and hosts from their public Facebook Pages and from ticketing services such as Eventbrite and Ticketmaster. This includes names, photos, addresses, event times and ticket links. It does not include posts, comments, reactions or information about the people who follow those Pages.

Event photos

Photographers can share photos from events with the audiences they shoot for. If you appear in a photo and want it taken down, email us and we’ll remove it.

How we use it

We use this information only to run the apps:

  • to sign you in and keep your account secure;
  • to show you venues, events, people and friends that are relevant to you and near you;
  • to let venues and organizers manage their own listings;
  • to send safety pings to the people you choose;
  • to keep the service working, fix problems and prevent abuse.

We don’t sell your information, we don’t use it for advertising, and we don’t share it with advertisers or data brokers.

Who we share it with

  • Other members of the same audience see what you choose to make visible in the app, for example your name and picture when you RSVP or check in, and friends who also use the app may see that you’re at the same venue.
  • Service providers that host and run the service for us, under contracts that limit their use of the data to providing that service: Heroku (hosting), Amazon Web Services (storage and photo delivery), New Relic (performance monitoring) and Twilio (text messages).
  • Meta (Facebook), when you sign in with Facebook or when we request public Page information, under Meta’s own terms and privacy policy.
  • When the law requires it, for example to respond to a valid legal request, or to protect someone’s safety.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. Location history is kept only as long as it is useful for check-ins and nearby suggestions. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, sign-in tokens, sessions, locations, likes, friend connections, RSVPs and messages within 30 days, except where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation.

Your choices and rights

  • Change Facebook permissions at any time in Facebook under Settings & privacy, then Apps and websites. Removing an app there stops it receiving new information from Facebook.
  • Turn off location in your device settings.
  • See, correct or delete your information by emailing hello@audiencekit.com. See Delete your data for the steps.

Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights, such as the right to a copy of your data or to object to how we use it. Email us and we’ll help, wherever you live.

Children

The apps are for adults. Many listings are for bars and clubs, and you must be at least 18 to use them, or older if your local law sets a higher age. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls and limited staff access. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us at once if you think your account has been misused.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
